Canna 'Yara' - Hlízy
Canna 'Yara' is fantastic in a large flower pot or planter. Take a large pot with holes in the base. Cover the bottom with a layer of potsherds or hydro granules. Put some potting compost in the pot and plant the Canna tubers at the appropriate depth. Fill the pot with potting compost and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. Place the flower pot in an area with complete sunshine.
Canna 'Yara' combinedThe bright yellow flowers and large green leaves of Canna ‘Yara’ give a magical exotic awareness when planted in groups in the garden border. Introduce them to Kniphofia Uvaria 'Grandiflora', Yucca Filamentosa and Crocosmia x Crocosmiiflora). Place the Cannas in a sunny area so that these tropical plants feel at home.
Canna 'Yara' originally grows in tropical regions and flourishes throughout the entire year in the tropics. Our Canna flowers, blossom from summer well into autumn.
Canna favouriteIf you want your plants to flower earlier you can 'withdraw' them. Place them in a shallow tray in moist compost at 15-20˚ C during the month of April. When shoots begin to appear, place them in potting compost. By the beginning of May, they will get used to the outdoor temperature and you can plant them from mid-May onwards in either your garden or in a pot.
Canna 'Yara' is a fast grower and as a result, it needs a lot of water and food. Make sure the soil does not dry out. Place a dish full of water underneath the flower pot during hot, dry periods. Fertilize frequently for good growth and flowering by mixing plant food with the irrigation water.
Canna overwinteredCanna tubers like dahlias are easy to preserve during the winter. Remove the tubers after the first frost. Cut the stems back to 15 cm above the tuber. Attach a label with the name 'Canna 'Yara' to remind yourself for the next year. Shake off the soil and place the Canna tubers in a box of compost and sharp sand and keep in a frost-free place. Large tubers can be placed together in the same box. Next spring, you can plant them once again, but only do so once there are no more signs of night frosts. You will be rewarded with its beautiful flowers during the entire summer and well into autumn.
